Ishtar, Mythical Fraud!

Ishtar used her great position as the goddess of love to her advantage as a means to control people and cause terror. In Gilgamesh's rejection of Ishtar, he points out examples of Ishtar's past actions. Ishtar mesmerized a poor, shepard boy and had him bake and kill lamb for her. What did the young boy receive in return? He was "sexually" wounded.(Gilgamesh,Pg.39) Another instance is when she attempted to lure the family gardener into getting in bed with her.(Gilgamesh, Pg. 39) What is man's greatest weakness? The simple answer is WOMEN.

In Ishtar representing love, she is acting the image of the perfect woman. Men can not possibly resist this temptation. Once a man even glances at her, Ishtar's spell latches onto them. Men are drawn into her presence motivated by sexual desire. When Ishtar is considered as the ultimate prized possession, men absurdly fight over who gets to enjoy "pleasures" from Ishtar. These fights lead to warfare. Wherever Ishtar goes, violence and destruction follows. In the "Descent of Ishtar" , even Ereshkigal-a god-
is quoted saying," I weep for the men who have left their wives. I weep for the wives torn from the embrace of their husbands." The god of the underworld has knowledge of Ishtar's treacherous ways and HAS SYMPATHY for Ishtar's victims. Ishtar uses her title as a god to deceive villagers into worshiping and praising her. She is no god but a monster!

Ishtar is a version of today's "Desperate Housewife" figure that we see on television. She uses a false image to manipulate as many people as she possibly can. But like any "celebrity", their "fall" is inevitable, and so Ishtar was brought down to the level of nakedness that everyone must face.
